Modeling a Pathway Through Global Crises to Hope

The world seems to be in chaos… Having regard to the world events now ongoing, I recently contacted Thomas Homer-Dixon, who founded the Cascade Institute and was a presenter some years ago on his book Commanding Hope. Thomas suggested that his Cascade associates Mike Lawrence and Megan Shipman would be ideal presenters because of their development of the Polycrisis Core Model — a tool allowing the user to zoom out from current events to explore the broader context of global systems change, the global polycrisis, and the future possibilities that result.

Mike and Megan will describe how the Cascade Institute's Polycrisis model can be used to analyze the complex dynamics from multiple global systems — including global conflicts, the food system, world order, and many others — so that we can act strategically to achieve outcomes that are both possible and desirable, and how their results from the model can be used to provide guidance to governments, NGOs and others on how they can best intervene or influence these outcomes. We are privileged to have the opportunity to learn about the practical actions that governments, interested parties and even individuals can take to reduce conflict and suffering.
