About the talk
The session drew on a paper Alexei described, when Ray first invited him, as a work in progress: “Funny Origins of the Big Bang Theory” — on George Gamow in the 1940s — part of a wider project on the history of Big Bang cosmology that also includes “Space-Time, Death-Resurrection, and the Russian Revolution” (Soviet Russia circa 1920) and “Knabenphysik: Postdoctoral Revolt and the Invention of Quantum Mechanics” (on the Copenhagen community of the 1920s). Alexei is a historian of science in the Department of History at the University of British Columbia.
